Sweet Potato Jerky Dog Treats

A delicious, easy, and healthy treat for dogs, these sweet potato dog treats are made with only organic sweet potatoes and are the equivalent of dehydrated sweet potato jerky.
Servings: 35 small treats
Author: Jenn @ Regain Your Sparkle

Ingredients

  • 2-3 large sweet potatoes

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 250°F.
  • There is no need to peel, but make sure to scrub the sweet potatoes well (any remaining mold or dirt on the skin can be bad for your dog).
  • Cut each sweet potato into 1/3” thick slices. The thinner you slice the sweet potatoes, the shorter the cooking time you will need.
  • Line two large sheet pans with parchment paper.
  • Lay pieces evenly (in one layer) on the parchment paper.
  • Bake them for about 3 hours. Remove from oven when chewy or crunchy depending on your preference. The time may vary depending on the thickness and width of your slices.

Notes

*Toss any sweet potatoes with visual signs of mold, as mold can be bad for your dog.
*Variations: You can also use a dehydrator. You may also decide to use a little olive oil or sprinkle cinnamon on the sweet potatoes if desired.
*Monitor your dog and adjust the size of the pieces so they do not present a choking hazard. Additionally, as with any new food, watch your dog carefully (or consult with a vet) to make sure their body handles it appropriately. My dog is super sensitive to most foods and loved them, but I can’t speak for everyone’s dog.
