If you’ve ever made a pizza dip that tasted amazing but didn’t look so amazing once it came out of the oven, you’re not alone. I tested a lot of pizza dip recipes while working on this one, and while most were delicious, nearly all of them baked up yellow and greasy. This Easy Pizza Dip was designed to do both: deliver classic, loaded pepperoni pizza flavor and bake up hot, creamy, and party-worthy with an appetizing look.

Pizza Dip in Round White Dish, with crostinis dipped in. Next to parsley

By layering the ingredients, baking in stages, and sticking to the right cheeses, this version stays melty and scoopable without completely discoloring. It’s simple, easy, and perfect for serving at a gathering. Bonus: it’s a 6-ingredient base recipe that’s endlessly customizable.

Ingredients

This pizza dip keeps things simple; every ingredient plays a role in flavor and final appearance.’

Pizza Sauce (Not Marinara)

Use pizza sauce, not marinara or spaghetti sauce. Pizza sauce is thicker, which helps prevent the dip from becoming watery and keeps the layers distinct.

Cream Cheese

Cream cheese creates a rich, creamy base. Make sure it’s fully softened so it blends smoothly with the herbs and spreads easily.

Freshly Grated Cheese

Freshly grated mozzarella and parmesan melt more smoothly and evenly than pre-shredded cheese.

*You can use pre-shredded if desired, but freshly grated gives the best texture and appearance.
*Cheddar cheese can be added, but this recipe uses white cheeses to maintain a warm, clean appearance when serving.

Pepperoni

Classic pepperoni keeps this dip familiar and crowd-pleasing.

Pizza Dip Toppings

This pizza dip is a great base for mixing things up:

  • Pepperoni (classic and always popular)
  • Black olives
  • Cooked sausage or crumbled bacon
  • Fresh parsley or basil
  • Red pepper flakes if heat is desired

How to Make Pizza Dip

Preheat oven to 350°F and then lightly whip the softened cream cheese with oregano, basil, and parsley.

Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly in a dish. Spread pizza sauce over the cream cheese layer. Mix the mozzarella and parmesan and sprinkle about ¾ of the cheese on top and bake for 15 minutes.

Remove from oven, add remaining cheese and pepperoni, and return to oven for 10 more minutes. Remove from oven and add any optional toppings. Serve hot with crostinis, vegetables, chips, or any other desired dippers!

Tips & Tricks for the Best Pizza Dip

Make-Ahead Friendly

You can assemble this pizza dip several days ahead of time and refrigerate it (unbaked). When ready to serve, bake as directed and add a few extra minutes if needed.

Soften the Cream Cheese

Cold cream cheese won’t blend smoothly and can lead to uneven layers. Let your block of cream cheese sit at room temperature or microwave briefly (unwrapped) until soft.

Storage & Leftovers

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

FAQ

How do I reheat this pizza dip?

Reheat it in the oven at 325°F until warmed through, or microwave in short intervals.

What should I serve with pizza dip?

Crostinis, chips, crackers, or vegetables all work well. Choose sturdy dippers that can handle a thick, hot dip.

Can I make pizza dip in a slow cooker?

Yes, if desired. However, for best appearance, bake it first and transfer to a slow cooker on warm to keep it hot during parties.

Best Dippers for Pizza Dip

  • Crostinis and/or crackers (gluten free if needed)
  • Tortilla chips/scoops
  • Bell pepper strips or carrot sticks
  • Zucchini rounds

Making Crostinis for Your Pizza Dip

Prep Time 5 minutes mins
Cook Time 25 minutes mins
Total Time 30 minutes mins
Servings 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • ½ teaspoon each: dried oregano basil, parsley (or 1½ teaspoon Italian seasoning)
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese finely grated
  • 1¾ cups whole milk low-moisture shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Pepperoni slices to taste
  • Optional toppings: sliced black olives fresh parsley, 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional topping to add heat)
  • Optional dippers: crostinis* vegetables, or chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Lightly whip/beat cream cheese and herbs, just until combined.
  • Spread on the bottom of a 9-inch pie plate, 9×9 square pan, or a 9-9.5” ceramic tart pan/baking dish.
  • Spread pizza sauce on top. In a small bowl, mix cheese. Sprinkle about ¾ over top and set the rest aside. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven.
  • Sprinkle with remaining cheese and add pepperoni. Bake 10 additional minutes.
  • Remove from oven. Add optional toppings if desired.
  • Serve with crostinis, vegetables, or chips.

Notes

*If you’d like to make your own crostinis (I make mine because I’m gluten free and need a gluten free loaf), slice a baguette into thin round slices, about 1/3” thick and arrange on a single layer on a baking sheet. Drizzle/brush with olive oil and bake for about ten minutes, flipping halfway through.
*You are welcome to add cheddar cheese; however, this recipe is baked in increments and only uses white cheese for a warm white appearance. With tweaks it will still taste great but may have a yellow appearance when serving.
