The perfect mix of sweet & tart for Sunday brunch, this Grapefruit Mimosa is sure to shine. Light, bubbly, and refreshing, it’s a delightfully simple drink for relaxing or celebrating.

The classic mimosa made with orange juice and champagne can get boring. This grapefruit mimosa is a lot lighter and brighter; a twist on the classic. Plus, you can add just a splash of triple sec (orange liqueur) to bring a touch of the classic orange.

About Healthier Brunch Mimosas

Mimosas are the designated and most beloved brunch beverage; and for the deliciousness and simpleness, who can resist? When ordering in a restaurant, the fun flavor possibilities are endless: cranberry, pomegranate, pineapple, blueberry lemon, watermelon, raspberry, hibiscus, and more.

However, they can often be laden with high amounts of sugar, artificial flavors, and more. Making them at home can still be so simple yet filled with much higher quality and fresh ingredients. All of the flavor, less of the downfalls!

Grapefruit Mimosa Ingredients

The tart grapefruit juice pucker pairs perfectly with the dry bubbly wine, plus a splash of orange liquor for a hint of citrusy-sweet. These grapefruit mimosas require two ingredients with the third as optional. These mimosas are best mixed cold and served immediately, so make sure all your ingredients are chilled in the fridge prior.

The star feature of this recipe is very obviously, the grapefruit. You can use sort bought juice (unsweetened, pulp-free, and not made from concentrate), however, the fresh yields a perfectly refreshing touch.

Any grapefruits will work, however, when in season, I prefer freshly squeezed from ruby red grapefruits for an extra rosy, pink touch. You’ll need about 3-4 large grapefruits for this recipe that makes about 6 mimosas.

Grapefruit-Mimosas

Grapefruit juice is mixed with sparkling wine/champagne to create the mimosa. A low sugar champagne is preferred to keep the sugar in this drink minimal. I use extra brut or brut nature, or brut if that’s the only option available, but you can also use any other good-quality sparkling wine of your choice (just watch the sugar content).

Finally, grab your favorite orange liqueur such as triple sec (I used Grand Marnier®); just a splash in each mimosa is needed to add a sweet, citrusy touch.

Mimosas: How Much Champagne to Juice

Classic orange juice and champagne mimosas tend to follow either the ratio 1:1 or 1:2. In this recipe, I like to use 1 part grapefruit juice to 2 parts champagne. Feel free to experiment as well and come up with your favorite ratio depending on the recipe.

Top Tips for Making a Grapefruit Mimosa

  • Make sure all ingredients are cold. Squeeze and chill the juice ahead of time or use grapefruits that were refrigerated. (Ice does not work in mimosas).
  • Find cute champagne glasses and garnish with fresh grapefruit for a classy appearance.
  • Use grapefruit guide freshly squeezed for optimum flavor. Even if you use store bought, either way, make sure to finely strain out any pulp.
  • Use a low sugar champagne – don’t drink your sugar!
  • Don’t pre-mix the mimosas, mix the grapefruit juice and champagne in the glass while serving.

Healthy Mimosa Flavors

Mimosa-Bar-Juices-Fruits-1

Use this basic mimosa recipe to make many variations of mimosas. Try a mimosa with any one of these juices substituted: cranberry, pineapple, blueberry, pomegranate, guava, mango, watermelon, and more.

To use FRESH juice, please reference an actual recipe. Some fruits, for example, the raspberries in my Raspberry Prosecco Cocktails, need additional steps to make the fruit into a juice/puree that will work.

So let’s get to serving the perfect healthy brunch accompaniment — healthy mimosas made with real fruit and lower sugar champagne. Classic, classy, easy, and delicious!

Here’s to brunch, keeping the cocktails healthy (so we can have more), and regaining our sparkle together,
